A new volume by Mauro Gagliardi, member of the Academic Network of the International Ratzinger Foundation, has recently been published under the title Rivelazione, ermeneutica e sviluppo dottrinale in Joseph Ratzinger. Un contributo indiretto alla sinodalità (Revelation, Hermeneutics, and Doctrinal Development in Joseph Ratzinger: An Indirect Contribution to Synodality).
Focusing exclusively on Joseph Ratzinger’s theological writings—leaving aside his magisterial teaching as Supreme Pontiff—the book offers a chronological reconstruction of Ratzinger’s thought on Revelation and its interpretation, beginning with his 1955 habilitation thesis on St. Bonaventure. It provides a coherent account of Ratzinger’s understanding of Scripture and Tradition, the relationship between Magisterium and theology, and the transmission of faith in the contemporary context.
The study also engages current theological discussions by applying Ratzinger’s theology of Revelation to the theme of synodality, while concluding with a focused reflection on doctrinal development grounded in his theological vision.
This publication represents a valuable contribution to ongoing scholarly engagement with the thought of Joseph Ratzinger and its significance for the life of the Church today.
